Christina Rises Again!

I've been a huge Christina fan since the beginning. I guess back then I didn't realize how important music would be to me. My music tastes over the years have grown and now they vary from genre to genre.

But this blog isn't about them. This one is about Christina and her newest album. I got Lotus for my birthday (two weeks early, my sister was going to hold it hostage), but I couldn't wait that long.

This review of Lotus is by myself (Brittany Selcer) and my sister Brynn Selcer. But before you read it, take a listen to the album after the jump.

Lotus Intro: talking about being reborn and rising from the ashes of a battle lost but you're coming back and better than ever.

Army of Me: Haters "to the left, to the left, everything you own in a box to left" is how I would put it. This song is a  Fighter 2.0 anthem about sticking up for yourself. It has a good beat that you can follow throughout the whole song. It's also a song that you can sing along to and connect with.

Red Hot Kinda Love: is an upbeat song about a "Red Hot Kinda Love" obviously. An "Infatuation" type song with the hint of sassy "Glam"-Tina. This is a song that WILL get ingrained in your mind very easily with all the fun "la la's."

Make the World Move (featuring Cee Lo Green): a song with a more R&B type vibe, but it's still fun. Love the message about coming together to "Make the World Move" and forget the differences we all have and party as one. A song with a great message and a dance beat. What's that phrase from "Back In The Day"...oh right "Don't Hate, Appreciate."

Your Body: Another upbeat dance track. Her first track with the famous Max Martin who worked with Britney Spears and *NSTYNC. Oops I meant *NSYNC. But it was a great effort. I always wondered what a collaboration between "MaxTina" (her words not mine) would sound like. I was really surprised. I actually danced this song for the first time and man my abs hurt after I was done.

Let There Be Love: MaxTina's second and last collaboration on Lotus. The energy of the song starts in the beginning with the crescendo (increase in the loudness) and then it's maintained keeping you on the fun ride. I wouldn't be surprised if this became a single. It's fun and energetic.

Sing For Me: is a beautiful ballad where you can see a more vulnerable side of Christina. This is one of my fave songs. The beat has mimicked like heartbeat on a bass drum or drum pad. The lyrics are beautifully written. Just absolutely great song.

Blank Page: Sia co-writes the beautiful ballad with Christina and Chris Braide. I love this song. It reminds me of Britney's "Everytime". The piano melody is great accompaniment with her vocals. Really emotional ballad. Love, love, love this one. Like trying to start over from blank slate.

Cease Fire: at first I didn't like this one, but it's grown on me. I like the chorus. The beat's is great. The vocals are different from the other songs. Trying to end the fight and battle and just trying to find some common ground with your partner. It could be interpreted differently in different scenarios.

Around the World: not hard to remember. I call this the "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir" song. Fun uptempo if you're feelin' naughty song. I feel like I could freestyle dance to this song.

Circles: Another "to the left, to the left" haters song. I like the idea of telling the people who don't approve to basically kiss your a$$.

Best Of Me: is a song similar to "Sing For Me". You can try your hardest to get to me and get under my skin, but you'll never get the "Best Of Me" 'cause I'm stronger than you make me out to be. Hey that's a great lyric...DIBS! Love the message of the song.

Just A Fool (featuring Blake Shelton): Ahh at last my favorite song off the record period. Christina's first attempt at a country type song. Everything about this song is perfect! The BlakeTina vocals, the melody and my favorite part...the emotion that's put into the song. You can hear it the melody and vocals. Lucky for me it was announced as a single on RCA promo's twitter page. *does victory dance*

Light Up The Sky: rising up through all the battles and struggles that as partners you can still rise from the ashes and come back. Lifting up one another when the other is down. Really beautiful message.

Empty Words: The way I interpret this one, is that this one's for the critics. You gotta have a thick skin and ignore the comments that people sometimes have. Sometimes they're hurtful and sometimes they're not. But to Christina, "you're only throwing empty words my way, you won't break me down." This unbreakable flower is ready to fight and won't back down.

Shut Up: This is the "Vanity" of Lotus for the haters and naysayers. Just "put the shut to the up" as Madea would say. She doesn't care what you have to say but do you wonder what she thinks about you...'cause that's the REAL question...wait nope "kiss my A$$...don't give a --." I guess Christina is the one with the last word.
